Another lovely day in Buile Hill on Saturday brings the cyclo-cross season for me and Elsie to a close.
The third year running that this event has been dry, fast, and the death-by-a-thousand-corners course finally gave me the ride I’d waited for here, with a sweet end to my cyclo-cross season riding the v50 and then the Elite race cats.
Everything just went well and even after 15 laps of racing over 2 races (I make that 525 corners, plus start loop ones ) I can say I think I just made two very minor mistakes. A stellar day out by recent standards and diamonds in the legs. 2nd in v50 race, 16th in Elite race.

It’s been a very rewarding season. No stand out results, but the late start to it all made me feel so grateful to be racing every time i raced. I had some ace tussles all year long with my peers and as top form ebbs and flows (especially at our age) you can always turn up to a local NW league race or a Yorkshire league race, or a National race, and be guaranteed a great scrap with someone or other. And if you’re not winning, it’s the battles that make it memorable, anyway ! Great season, all of you.
Thanks to all the organisers, helpers, comms, timing folks, and to anyone who has helped me in the pits and helped me to organise three races of my own (that seem ages ago!)
Days like these are not to be taken for granted, especially after thinking I may not get to race at all this season, and we’ve just gotta fill our boots and have fun. Roll on 2024-5 season!
